DIY Floral Rose Crown

 photo 4c59038c-aedb-4189-a137-5e52bc717c0b.jpg

I really love all the floral crowns around at the moment and have been tempted to buy one. However, they aren't the cheapest of hair accessories and, being pretty thrifty, I decided to make my own.

I was pointed towards this DIY by Danielle, who commented on my floral garland bracelet DIY with her headcrown DIY! I absolutely loved the idea of creating my own, so off I hopped (though not literally) to Hobbycraft for my supplies.

My alice bands cost me £1.99 for a pack of 3 from New Look, and the roses were £2.99 for a bunch of 6 in Hobbycraft. So, really, it cost a lot cheaper to make my own and I got to choose my own colour combo!

The idea is that you wrap the wire stems around the alice band to fix the roses into place. I started with a lilac rose in the centre, then worked my way along one side, alternating the colours, then did the same the other side.

And this is the finished result...

I also made one with both large and small roses!

I would wear this to some sort of an event, such as a wedding - or perhaps on holiday. I did get an 'are you getting married?' (a question usually reserved for my Grandad) from my Mum - ha-de-ha-ha...I think it's pretty!

DIY Floral Garland Bracelet

Start by folding your length of string/cord/thread in half and knot to make a loop at the top. NOTE: Make sure the length fits all around your wrist when it's folded.

Thread the other ends through your button and tie a knot. Snip any excess ends off.

And you're left with this!

 photo 7fb6c2f4-e524-49df-bdec-71982507ca8e.jpg

Now you can start adding your flowers. Wrap the wire attached to the flower around the thread to secure it in place.

Carry on until you get to the end of your bracelet.

Secure your bracelet by hooking the loop over the button!

Nails - Metallic Roses

I haven't done much nail art recently, mainly due to the fact my nails have been in a pretty awful state - chipped, cracked and split - so I've had to keep cutting them down. I bought a bottle of Sally Hansen advanced hard as nails today so I'm going to apply that throughout the week and hope for the best!

I had yesterday afternoon off and really wanted to use some of the time to pretty-fy my nails. My nails are still really short, so I decided to paint just one rose on each nail using some metallic colours.

 photo eea89a95-335b-4cc6-b7eb-e9fa1eabb12f.jpg

I started with my favourite as a base - Models Own Utopia. The flowers were painted using barry m Lilac foil and a random teal green my Auntie gave me for Christmas [no brand name on bottle!] and I used Models Own Grace Green for the leaves. I outlined the roses using my Models Own nail art pen. I then used a dotting tool to make dots using opposing colours on each nail. And of course a slick of top coat to seal.

I hope everyone is having a good weekend. I haven't done much of interest today. Popped into town to get a few things, including some Topshop Joni jeans. It's rare I find jeans that I actually like/suit my shape, but the Joni jeans are perfect. Ben treated me to lunch at Pizza Express too, mmmm. We're off to see Oz: The Great and Powerful tonight, which I'm pretty excited about. And tomorrow, my brother and sister-in-law have invited us over then out for a Mother's Day Carvery lunch. Looking forward to seeing them, and the bump! Have you got anything lovely planned?

DIY flower embellished sunglasses

diysunnies

You will need:
Sunglasses
Resin flower cabochons
Glue gun

 photo 977a7e6a-c167-446e-9352-a1ece8cd7398.jpg

Method
Pretty straightforward. Just use your glue gun to apply glue onto the frame of the sunglasses, fixing the flowers on as you do so. As you can probably see, I started off doing a pattern with the colours, but ended up putting them on randomly towards the end as I didn't have double of every colour. I'm still happy with the result!

Pretty crazy sunglasses;I reckon I would only have the guts to wear these on holiday, somewhere lovely and hot. Roll on July, then!

Nails - grunge floral

I hope everyone is having a lovely weekend so far? I had an evening to myself last night so spent it having a lovely bubble bath and cosying up in my onesie with a film, wine and my nail art pens!

I had tried this design out on paper [have since got some new nail wheels to practice on!] originally. I was after some sort of grungey watercolour floral design. It came out pretty well on paper so I decided to apply it to my nails last night.

I started off by using Models Own Black Magic for the base. I painted the floral design on using a fine paintbrush. I used a selection of colours, mainly Models Own Raspberry Crush and Beth's Blue. The green and pink were ones from my nail art pen collection.

I really like this design..it's really pretty, and wasn't that hard to do :) Plus, as I'm a bit of a floral freak, it matches a lot of the clothes I wear!

Nails - Rose nail art decals

I just had to share these gorgeous pink rose nail art decals. I originally bought some for the lovely Fiona, who then instagrammed them on her nails - when I saw her photo I decided I needed some for myself!

They are so easy to apply. You cut them to size, place in water for around 30 seconds then slip the decal off the paper and apply to the nail. Once dry, apply a top coat.
I only tried it out on my 'ring finger', but if I'd have had more time I would have done the whole lot! I painted the rest of my nails with my new barry m glitter nail polish in Rose Quartz, which I layered over Models Own Utopia [favourite!].

I hope everyone is having a lovely weekend. Ben and I attempted some Christmas shopping yesterday. I say attempted - we only managed to get a couple of gifts. I got a few bits and bobs from Primark [hello cat onesie, you are amazing] and some goodies from Lush. Hoping to go out today and actually do some proper present shopping! That's if I succeed in dragging Ben out of bed. Happy Sunday :)

Cath Kidston inspired nail art tutorial

I thought I would share how I did my Cath Kidston inspired nail art. I think this is a super easy but very effective bit of nail art. It doesn't take that long either!

Here's what I used - obviously you can use different colours but this is what I chose:

Base coat, pink nail polishes, green nail polish, white nail polish, white nail art pen, dotting tool and a fine paintbrush.

IMG_2648

First, paint your nail with your chosen base coat and let it dry.

IMG_2645

Use the nail art pen to make little cloud-like splodges.

IMG_2646

Put a blob of pink nail polish onto a piece of paper, and use your paintbrush to dab a bit onto the splodges.

IMG_2652

IMG_2653

Then use the paintbrush to apply little flecks, using the other brighter pinks.

IMG_2654

Use your paintbrush again, to create little leaves with the green polish. Add dots around the cloud shapes using your dotting tool. Apply a top coat and you're done!

Hope you enjoyed this tutorial! x

Nails - Cath Kidston inspired accent.

The lovely Fiona reminded me that I wanted to try these nails out. I love Cath Kidston, but it's not the cheapest of places to shop - so I guess having it on my nails satisfies my need a little! Unfortunately I didn't have enough time to do the design on all my nails, so I chose to do one accent nail - on my 'ring' finger as usual.

IMG_2631
IMG_2633

I used Models Own Raspberry Crush, and used my Topshop nail art pen for the 'blobby' bits. I used Models Own again for the flowers - Pastel Pink, Sophie's Pink, Raspberry Crush and Jade Stone - applied using a fine paintbrush. I finished with dots using L.A. Colors French White.

So happy it's the weekend! I finished work nice and early today as it was my half day. I went into town for a Starbucks cheese & marmite panini [my favourite] and cool lime refresha, and a spot of shopping. Bought my bestie her birthday presents and two pairs of boots for myself, as I couldn't decide on which colour!

What are your plans for the weekend? I'm looking forward to going out for a meal at our favourite Indian tomorrow evening :)

Craft project - wooden floral bunting.

Here's my latest craft project! I made use of the wooden bunting I got in my August Crafty Creatives box, and I'm so pleased with how it turned out.

IMG_2617

I decided to paint a design on my bunting, and went for roses - I love them, and I have a lot of floral things in my room so I figured it'd match well!

I got some acrylic paint and paintbrushes from Hobbycraft [cost me less than a tenner so not too bad!] and got to work. I hadn't really planned exactly what colour combinations I was going to do - I just went with the flow and mixed colours as I went along!

IMG_2620

I used the yellow paper string which came in my Crafty Creatives box to hang the bunting. I really like it. It might not be perfect, but that's the charm of handmade. It looks so pretty hung in my room :)

Did you get the August Crafty Creatives box? What have you made so far?
